Mindanao is a sleeping economic giant sedated by ongoing armed conflict in certain areas but is affecting the multi-religious island as a whole. By setting up schools which provide proper education that integrates peace and understanding into the curriculum, local peace leaders hope the conflict can be resolved between the different peoples of Mindanao. Power of 10Sen is supporting the Mindanao Schools of Peace by lending our concept and philosophy to the Philippine community to help them fund and further establish the growing Mindanao Schools of Peace network. Power of 1Peso will reach out to the children and youth of the Philippines, cultivating a generation of caring and concerned individuals while raising funds for the education of peace in Mindanao.
In Mindanao, an island state of the Philippines, tens of thousands of families are resettled because they are affected by armed conflict. Children are the most vulnerable to this onslaught as they lose the benefit of having a formal education and are involved directly or indirectly with the fighting that is ensuing around them.
To allow the young people in the Philippines to support Mindanao and the integration of peace education in all subjects at all levels.
The strategy is for Power of 10Sen to lend our concept and philosophy to the Philippine community so that they may set up Power of 1Peso and raise funds for the Mindanao Schools of Peace. As local Mindanaoan Peace Leader Dr. Abid-Babano explains, “Peace is a process. It is dynamic and holistic. We cannot just put it on paper and forget about it. It must be nurtured and taught. Education is the permanent solution to our situation!”
